Last updated: 2026-10-08. This section applies to the eMenuBg mobile app for Android and iOS. The handling of app data is described here. Privacy contact: [email protected].
Location while using the app. With your permission, eMenuBg accesses your device location (latitude and longitude). It may be precise or approximate depending on the system permission you grant. We use it to find and sort nearby restaurants and dishes and calculate distances. Coordinates are sent over HTTPS to the eMenuBg API for these requests and to update the location associated with the device identifier; processing is not limited to your device.
Background location. eMenuBg uses background location to detect when you are near a restaurant and show a notification that opens its menu, even when the app is closed or not in use. This requires a separate permission for location access at all times. The app registers areas around restaurants (geofences), monitored by Android or iOS system services. When location updates are received, the app may send coordinates to eMenuBg to refresh nearby restaurants and the device location.
Other app data. We create a random persistent identifier (UUID), stored in secure device storage and sent to eMenuBg. It is not a name or email address, but links a device to its location and favourite restaurants and dishes. Favourites are stored through our API. Language, notification preferences and information used to limit repeated notifications are stored locally. When scanning a QR code, the camera reads the code; camera frames are not sent to eMenuBg.
Recipients and external services. Coordinates and the identifier are sent to the eMenuBg service (my.emenubg.com) to provide the features described above. The app does not send these coordinates to advertising networks. Google/Android and Apple/iOS system location services process location under their own policies and device settings. Restaurant maps load tiles from OpenStreetMap, providing that service with your IP address and the requested map area. Opening directions passes the restaurant address or coordinates to Google Maps or Apple Maps; use of your own location there is controlled by that service.
Your choices. You can browse the general restaurant list and menus without granting location permission. You can deny or withdraw permission in system settings, allow access only while using the app, or disable notifications in eMenuBg settings. Disabling notifications alone does not withdraw location permission. To stop background access, change the location permission in system settings. Nearby features and background notifications are limited without the corresponding permissions.
The eMenuBg database stores only the device’s last known latitude and longitude: each update replaces the previous coordinates in that record, without keeping a movement history in it. The device record includes its UUID and last activity time. Device records and favourites have no defined automatic deletion period for inactivity; they are retained without a predetermined end date until deleted. Removing a favourite deletes the corresponding server link. Withdrawing location permission or uninstalling does not delete data already sent to the server. For access, correction or deletion, email [email protected]; we will clarify the information needed to locate the device record.
